But in order to follow the "how-to-videos", I would need to reassemble the system, go through the cloning procedure, then open the system chassis again, and replace the HDD with the SSD. Since the system is already open, I would much rather clone the HDD to the SSD now, and install the SSD. This brings up the boot switcher and lets you boot from the external hard drive. OPEN Mac and replace HDD with cloned SSD. When Disk Utility is done, you can shut down your Mac and hold down Option when booting it back up. Click on the SSD icon, and select the Partition tab. Open the Disk Utility in the Applications folder. This is where I find myself in a pickle, because I just looked at some videos on how to clone the HDD to a SSD, and they all show the process to be: STEP ONE. Connect the SSD to the Mac using the mSATA enclosure or adapter. ![]() Without thinking things through however, I opened the mac and upgraded the memory already. My parents' 2013 Mac desktop was running REALLY slowly, so I decided to upgrade its memory from 8GB to 16GB, and upgrade the HDD to an SSD. I have a question about cloning my mac's hdd.
